Listing Criteria

We want FindABrit to be useful, trustworthy and worth browsing. That means we don’t automatically accept every business that submits a listing.

Applications and listings are reviewed before approval, and businesses are expected to continue meeting our standards while listed on FindABrit.

Who can join FindABrit?

FindABrit is intended for genuine businesses with a meaningful connection to Britain and the customers and communities they serve.

This includes independent businesses, tradespeople, family businesses, shops, farms and food producers, manufacturers, makers, accommodation providers, professional services, online businesses and many others operating across Britain.

Businesses don’t need to be large, established or have a physical shop. Sole traders, new businesses and businesses operating entirely online are welcome to apply.

What we look for

When reviewing a business for inclusion, we may consider factors including:

• whether the business genuinely operates in Britain or primarily serves the British market;
• whether the information provided is accurate and gives customers a fair picture of the business;
• whether the business appears genuine and actively trading;
• whether its products or services are suitable for the FindABrit directory;
• whether the listing is clear, professional and useful to potential customers;
• whether the business complies with applicable laws and any relevant licensing or regulatory requirements;
• whether the business operates in a way consistent with the purpose and standards of FindABrit.

British made and British businesses

Being listed on FindABrit does not necessarily mean that every product sold by a business was manufactured in Britain.

Many British businesses understandably sell or use products, materials and components from elsewhere in the world.

Where a listing or product is specifically described as British made, however, that description must be genuine and must not mislead customers about where the product was manufactured or produced.

Accurate and honest listings

Businesses are responsible for ensuring the information in their listing is accurate and kept reasonably up to date.

Listings must not deliberately mislead visitors about matters such as the identity of the business, its location, qualifications, experience, products, services or where goods are manufactured.

Businesses must also have the right to use any photographs, logos, descriptions or other material they upload to FindABrit.

Businesses we may refuse

We may refuse or remove businesses or listings that we reasonably believe are unsuitable for FindABrit.

This can include, for example:

• fraudulent, misleading or deliberately inaccurate listings;
• businesses that cannot reasonably be verified as genuine;
• illegal products, services or activity;
• spam, duplicate listings or attempts to manipulate the directory;
• businesses repeatedly misrepresenting their products, services or British credentials;
• abusive or threatening behaviour towards FindABrit, its users or other businesses;
• serious or repeated breaches of our Terms or Listing Criteria;
• other listings that we reasonably consider incompatible with the purpose or integrity of the directory.

Complaints and customer feedback

A complaint or negative review does not automatically mean a business will be removed from FindABrit.

Businesses sometimes have disagreements with customers, and even good businesses occasionally receive complaints.

However, serious complaints or a pattern of credible complaints may cause us to review a listing. Where appropriate, we may ask the business for further information before deciding whether any action is necessary.

Depending on the circumstances, we may leave the listing unchanged, request that information is corrected, temporarily take a listing offline or revoke the business’s access to the directory.

Keeping your listing up to date

Businesses should update their listing when important information changes.

If a business closes, changes ownership, stops trading or no longer meets the requirements of FindABrit, we may take its listing offline.

Approval isn’t an endorsement

FindABrit reviews businesses for suitability for the directory, but approval should not be understood as a guarantee, certification or personal endorsement of a business, its products or its services.

Customers should make their own enquiries and checks before purchasing goods, booking services or entering into contracts with a listed business.

Our right to review listings

FindABrit may review a business or listing at any time where there is a reasonable reason to do so.

We may ask a business to provide additional information or correct its listing as part of that review.

Where a business no longer meets our Listing Criteria or seriously or repeatedly breaches our rules, we may refuse, suspend or remove its listing.
