This Privacy Policy explains what personal information FindABrit collects, why we use it and the choices you have about your information.
We believe privacy information should be understandable, so we’ve tried to keep this policy as straightforward as possible.
This policy applies when you visit FindABrit, create an account, apply for a business account, create or manage a business listing, contact us or otherwise use our services.

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, how FindABrit uses your personal information, or you wish to exercise your data protection rights, you can contact us using the details above.
2. Information we may collect
The information we collect depends on how you use FindABrit.
It may include:
- your name;
- email address;
- username and account information;
- business name and business contact details;
- information supplied in a business application;
- information you add to a business listing;
- messages and correspondence you send to us;
- information relating to complaints, reports or enquiries;
- subscription and payment status where paid business services are used;
- technical information such as IP address, browser information, device information and website activity;
- cookie and similar technology information where applicable.
3. Business listing information
Information submitted for a public business listing is intended to be displayed publicly where the listing is approved and published.
This may include information such as the business name, description, location, areas served, website, telephone number, email address, photographs, logo and other details chosen for the listing.
Businesses should avoid placing private personal information in a public listing unless they are comfortable with that information being publicly available.
4. Business applications
Businesses may be required to submit an application before receiving permission to create or publish a business listing.
We use information supplied through an application to assess whether the business is suitable for FindABrit and meets our Listing Criteria.
We may retain an application and information about our decision where reasonably necessary to administer the directory, maintain appropriate records, prevent abuse or deal with future enquiries or disputes.
5. How we use your information
We may use personal information to:
- create and administer member accounts;
- review business applications;
- create, review, display and administer business listings;
- communicate with users and businesses about their accounts or listings;
- provide and administer paid business services where these are offered;
- process subscription status and respond to payment issues where applicable;
- send important service messages, including approval, listing, account, payment and security notices;
- respond to questions, complaints and reports;
- investigate suspected misuse or breaches of our rules;
- protect the security and integrity of FindABrit;
- maintain, troubleshoot and improve the website;
- comply with legal, accounting, regulatory or tax obligations;
- establish, exercise or defend legal claims where necessary.
6. Our legal bases for using personal information
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for processing personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:
- Contract where processing is necessary to provide an account, business listing, subscription or another service you have requested;
- Legitimate interests where reasonably necessary to operate, secure, improve and administer FindABrit, review applications, prevent abuse and maintain the integrity of the directory, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights;
- Legal obligation where we are required to process or retain information by law;
- Consent where the law requires us to obtain your consent, for example for certain cookies or marketing communications.
7. Account and service emails
We may send emails that are necessary to administer your FindABrit account or business listing.
These can include application decisions, account setup messages, listing notices, complimentary listing notifications, subscription information, payment problems, cancellation confirmations, security messages and other important information relating to the service.
Because these are service communications rather than marketing messages, you may continue to receive them while you maintain the relevant account or service.
8. Marketing communications
If FindABrit sends optional marketing communications, we will do so in accordance with applicable law.
Where consent is required, we will ask for it.
You can unsubscribe from optional marketing emails using the unsubscribe method provided in the message or by contacting us.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from sending necessary account, listing, payment or security messages.
9. Payments and subscriptions
Where FindABrit offers paid business listings or other paid services, payments may be processed by a third-party payment provider.
The payment provider may collect and process information required to authorise and manage the payment or recurring subscription.
FindABrit may receive information such as whether a payment succeeded or failed, subscription status, transaction references, billing dates and limited payment information made available by the provider.
We do not need to receive or store your complete card details where those details are handled securely by the payment provider.
The payment provider will process information in accordance with its own privacy terms and legal obligations.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
FindABrit may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, keep users signed in, remember preferences, maintain security, understand how the website is used and provide other website functionality.
Where the law requires consent for a particular cookie or technology, we will request that consent before using it.
Further information may be provided through our cookie notice or cookie settings where applicable.
11. Website analytics
We may use analytics tools to understand how people use FindABrit, such as which pages are visited, how visitors reach the website and how the site performs.
Where analytics involve cookies or similar technologies requiring consent, they will be used in accordance with your cookie choices.
12. Who we may share information with
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information where reasonably necessary with organisations that help us operate FindABrit, such as:
- website hosting and infrastructure providers;
- email delivery providers;
- payment and subscription providers where applicable;
- website security, backup and technical service providers;
- analytics providers where used;
- professional advisers such as accountants, insurers or legal advisers where necessary.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to respond to valid legal requests, to protect our legal rights or where reasonably necessary to prevent or investigate fraud or serious misuse.
13. Public information
Information published in a business listing is publicly accessible and may be seen, copied, indexed or otherwise processed by search engines and other internet users.
Removing information from FindABrit does not necessarily cause copies already indexed or stored by third parties to disappear immediately.
14. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and for legitimate legal, accounting, security or administrative requirements.
Different types of information may therefore be kept for different periods.
For example, information associated with an active account or listing may be retained while the account remains active, while certain transaction or accounting records may need to be retained for longer.
We may also retain limited records relating to refused, revoked or deleted business accounts where reasonably necessary to prevent abuse, maintain the integrity of the directory, resolve disputes or establish a record of previous decisions.
15. Account deletion
You may ask us to delete your account and personal information where applicable.
Deleting an account does not necessarily mean that every piece of information must immediately be erased. We may retain information where required by law or where another lawful basis permits or requires retention.
Where information is retained after account deletion, we will limit its use to the purposes for which retention remains necessary.
16. Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including:
- the right to ask for access to your personal information;
- the right to ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- the right to ask us to erase information in certain circumstances;
- the right to ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances;
- the right to object to certain processing;
- the right to data portability in certain circumstances;
- the right to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
These rights are not absolute and exemptions may apply depending on the circumstances.
To exercise any of these rights, please email findabrit@gmail.com or write to us using the correspondence address in section 1.
17. Complaints about your personal information
If you have concerns about how we use your personal information, please contact us first so we have an opportunity to investigate the issue.
You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), where applicable.
18. Keeping information secure
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we aim to use measures appropriate to the nature of the information we process.
19. International processing
Some service providers used to operate FindABrit may process information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, we will take appropriate steps where required by law to ensure the information receives an appropriate level of protection.
20. Children’s privacy
FindABrit’s business listing and account services are not intended to be used independently by children where they are not legally able to enter into the relevant agreement.
If we become aware that personal information has been provided by a child in circumstances where it should not have been collected, we may take appropriate steps to remove it.
21. Links to other websites
Business listings and other parts of FindABrit may contain links to websites operated by other organisations.
FindABrit is not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites. You should review their privacy information when visiting them.
22. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as FindABrit develops, when our services change or where necessary to reflect legal or regulatory requirements.
The latest version will be published on this page.
Where appropriate, we may provide additional notice of significant changes.
